In 2006 my husband Robert retired from the US Navy and we returned home to Texas after being away for over 20 years. Of all the places we could have chosen to live we decided to settle in east Texas. East Texas is a lovely place because of its plush green vegitation, long horn cattle ranches, working farms, rose gardens, and many small country towns and communities. It is in this setting that we chose to build our little ranch outside the city of Tyler.
Tyler, Texas is known as the "Rose Capital of America" because it produces over 20% of the nation's roses, has the nation's largest municipal rose garden, is home to the Tyle Rose Museum, and hosts the Texas Rose Festival each year in October, which draws more than 100,000 visitors to the city. I was inspired to do this rose painting when we first moved here. This painting is the first in a series of flower paintings.
"Tyler Rose" won a 3rd Place ribbon at the 2007 East Texas State Fair of Tyler.
